The Western Australia rules
| Full entitlement | 10 years → 8.667 weeks, then +4.333 weeks for each further 5 years |
|---|---|
| Pro-rata | From 7 years, pro-rata is paid whenever employment ends — resignation, dismissal, redundancy or death. The one carve-out: dismissal for serious misconduct forfeits the pro-rata top-up (you keep only entitlements that had already fully accrued). |
| Pay basis | Ordinary pay (excluding overtime, penalties, shift loadings and allowances) for your normal weekly hours; casuals include the casual loading. |
Worked example
Nine years at $1,500 a week, resigning = 7.8 weeks ≈ $11,700 paid out. WA and SA are the most generous states for people who leave between 7 and 10 years.
Other states differ — sometimes by thousands of dollars. Compare with the all-states calculator.
Frequently asked questions
Does WA pay pro-rata if I quit?
Yes — from 7 years, ending employment for any ordinary reason (including quitting) triggers a pro-rata payout. Serious misconduct dismissal is the exception.
How does WA count part-time service?
Entitlement is based on your ordinary pay for normal weekly hours; periods of service count in full, and the dollar value follows your hours pattern. Check Wageline's guidance for averaging details.
